Physical Education


At St. Mary’s physical education develops the students understanding of health, fitness and physical activity which motivates the students to choose a healthy, active lifestyle. Students develop personal and social skills which encourages positive attitudes and values when interacting with others.

Holy Faith students participate in a wide variety of sporting activities including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Camogie, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and Gymnastics. Holy Faith has an excellent record in school competitions and is well known for fielding strong teams in many events. This year all our basketball teams are on course to reach the knockout stages of the SSA Competition with wins against Our Lady’s Drogheda, Maryfield and St. Dominic’s, Cabra.

An emphasis on fitness and well-being is promoted by the availability of a fully equipped GYM and weights room. Furthermore fitness classes such as aerobics, step aerobics, Zumba and circuit training are offered throughout the year. All students are given a personal programme which is centred on their personal fitness and well-being goals.

The status of Physical Education within the curriculum is highly valued with all students receiving at least 1 hour of P.E. a week. Transition Years receive 2 hours a week. This year P.E. was introduced as a short course for Junior Certificate which reaffirms our value in Physical education and Well-being.

Transition year have been involved in various coaching awards with expert instructors and are on course to achieve 3 coaching qualifications by Christmas.

The extra-curricular timetable is in full swing with a wide variety of sports and fitness classes offered on a daily basis
